Gardening with siblings (oy!) | Portland Documentary Family Photographer

My daughter loves to garden. It goes beyond choosing plants and deciding where they will be placed in our garden beds: she loves the feel of soil and breaking up the roots in her agile fingers.

This season, I somehow got my son out to help plant. I'm sure he saw it as a chore, which might be why the afternoon ended with pointing fingers, water being thrown, and lots of screaming from the girl.

Olivia was so excited to plant the seeds that came from Grandpa Walt's farm. Two different types of peas, carrots, beets, cilantro, and dill were strewn on freshly tilled garden boxes, while we found places for kale, chard, and fennel starts that we purchased from the local nursery.

This might have been the start of the chaos. Once garden tools are thrown with such disgust, you know things are about to get real.

Yep, that's Liv's "I hate you" face. Carter had just thrown water all over her leg and sandals which threw her into a full on tizzy. So much for a peaceful day of gardening and being outdoors!

Does your family like to garden? Do you have moments where you have to stop the laughter because one kid is beyond reasoning and the other has pushed the limits? Every.single.day. at our house!

Head on overand see what my friend, Margaret Albaugh, is sharing of trampoline adventures. We’re lucky to have a amazing family photographer in Spokane!
